Job Description

A graduate is required for an immediate start as an International Institute for Cultural Enquiry-Coordinator, for the University of Exeter. The role will involve a broad range of duties including supporting the planning and delivery of online and face to face events; maintaining a web and social media presence; and undertaking desk-based research. This role is available until 31 July 2022 and will involve a mixture of home and campus based work. The individual can be based (when on campus) at either the Streatham (Exeter) or Penryn (Cornwall) Campus.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic graduate to support the development and implementation of the
International Institute for Cultural Enquiry.
Core to the University's strategic vision, University of Exeter Institutes focus on interdisciplinary research. Institutes are supported in areas of strength where the University is producing world-leading and innovative interdisciplinary research. Each Institute has a broad disciplinary reach that spans multiple departments and Colleges. Their goal is to create added value through the coalescence of academics, partners and other stakeholders around a shared vision.
The International Institute for Cultural Enquiry will enable Humanities and Social Science based Researchers from across the University to generate new research plans with the potential to bring innovation within (and beyond) their field: raising new research questions and testing and applying new methodologies and tools. It will foster collaboration between fields and disciplines, and also with partners beyond Higher Education.
Working to the Institute's Director, this post will play an important role in supporting the development of the Institute.
This role will require a mixture of home and campus-based working. When working from the office, individuals can be based at either the Streatham (Exeter) Campus, or the Penryn (Cornwall) Campus. There will occasionally be a requirement to travel between the campuses.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose of Role
The main purpose of this job role is to support the Director with the development and implementation of the International Institute for Cultural Enquiry. The role will involve a broad range of duties including: supporting the planning and delivery of events (online and face-to-face) connected to the Institute; maintaining a web and social media presence for the Institute; undertaking desk-based research as guided by the Institute Director; providing administrative support for the Director; maintaining financial records within University systems; servicing meetings connected to the Institute.
You will form strong relationships with academics and Professional Services staff within the organisation, working collaboratively with others in order to support delivery of the Institute's objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the planning and delivery of events connected to the Institute (online and face-to-face), leading on logistical and practical arrangements such as setting up online events platforms; arranging payments for guest speakers (where relevant); supporting the internal and external promotion of events connected to the Institute.
  • Maintain a web and social media presence for the Institute. Work with the academic community to produce, draft and proofread suitable content.
  • Undertake desk-based research as guided by the Institute Director, for example: investigating a number of different models for delivering aspects of the Institute's objectives; undertaking competitor analysis.
  • Provide administrative support for the Director and other staff members connected to the Institute, liaising with external partners as required.
  • Maintain financial records and support financial transactions within University systems.
  • Service meetings connected to the Institute, writing and circulating accurate minutes as well as making meeting arrangements (booking meetings and sending diary invites).

Level of Support
Line-management support is present daily and regular one-to-one meetings will be scheduled. The university offers extensive support to staff, including a structured Professional Development Review and Wellbeing Service plus GBPs are also offered 1:1 support from the Internships Team.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Attainments/Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree qualification from a UK university
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at grades A* - C (or equivalent)
Skills and Understanding
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Understanding of Social Media platforms and the ability to utilise them for a specific purpose
  • Accuracy and the ability to pay excellent attention to detail
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage a varied workload and work on multiple projects simultaneously
Prior Experience
  • Demonstrable experience of researching and writing compelling copy for a specific audience
  • Experience of supporting the delivery of events or online events (for example for a Student Society or Group)
  • Experience of team work and collaboration

GBP Scheme Requirements
  • To be eligible to apply and undertake a GBP role the graduate must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Achieved* (or about to achieve) a full undergraduate degree (or Masters or PhD).
  • Graduated in the UK within the last 3 years of your most recent degree (we will consider extenuating circumstances of potential applicants that may have prevented them from undertaking a graduate role within 3 years of graduation).* Please see above for additional requirements

  • Applicants cannot undertake another GBP role if the contract length in total exceeds the maximum duration of 23 months working as a GBP.
* To undertake a GBP role applicants must achieve their degree. In the unlikely scenario where a degree is not awarded, the GBP hours may be reduced to 15hrs a week (for undergraduates) or 6hrs a week (for postgraduates) to enable to the graduand the capacity to successfully complete their degree. If the graduand fails their degree the GBP role will end early
