Job Summary:
The College of Life and Environmental Sciences is seeking to recruit six Student Experience & Success Graduates to help support and extend the range of activities we provide for our students. The role holders will be embedded within our departments to support the Director of Education and the education teams with delivering and extending the range of academic support, community building and student experience activities within the department and College.
These roles are available for 23 months from 10th January 2022 (or asap thereafter). The post will be based on either our Exeter or Penryn campuses but dependent on the requirements of the role there may be some opportunity to work from home for part of the week with agreement. The work duties will be variable each week and may require occasional evening / weekend work.

We are seeking graduates to work in The College of Life & Environmental Sciences to support activity in our departments: Psychology, Biosciences, Geography, Sport and Health Sciences (all Exeter based) and based in Penryn, Cornwall at the Centre for Ecology and Conservation (Biosciences), and Centre for Geography and Environmental Sciences.
Main Purpose of the Role:
As a Student Experience and Success GBP, you will work closely with academic and professional services staff within the College and wider University to support enhancing the student experience.
This role is a full-time post and is required from 10th January 2022 for 23 months.
Main duties and accountabilities:
Create and deliver events and activities that enable student academic success within departments
  • Work closely with programme directors to develop events/workshops that meet student needs
  • Organise and support the running of workshops / help desks and content to build student skills and confidence
  • Support student transition and induction events for UK and International students
  • Support departmental avenues to obtain and analyse student feedback through focus groups, townhall meetings, surveys etc
  • Support planning of off-campus education activities - admin, delivery and follow-up for staff and students
  • Take an active role in education innovation projects within the department / College
Develop and run initiatives to build student learning community and belonging' at department/programme level.
  • Organise and run social/co-curricular events for students in a discipline/on a programme
  • Support student community-building initiatives at College and Department level
  • Support careers and employability initiatives in the department and College
  • Support community outreach activities and widening participation opportunities in the department / College
  • Create and expand departmental student marketing, social media and communication materials
  • Work with Student Partnerships team to help promote partnership and engagement opportunities, and convey feedback to students and educators.
The role holders are expected to:
  • Work closely with academic members of staff to support the students in their learning.
  • Complete any training as required.
  • Provide other general assistance within the College as appropriate to the grade and as required.

Training and Development
The university offers online and in-person learning and development opportunities, including mandatory online training in Prevent Duty - Inclusive, Cohesive and Safe Universities ; Equality and Diversity Introduction ; Health and Safety Introduction and Information Governance .

The role should provide the chance to work alongside a range of professional service staff such as marketing, finance, employability and education support teams over the duration of the employment
Level of Support
  • Weekly/fortnightly task allocation meetings with Director of Education and department education teams
  • Monthly meeting with GBP group
  • Regular 1:1's with Director of Education, Line Manager and / or Education Business Partners
The university also offers extensive support to staff, including a structured Professional Development Review and Wellbeing Service plus GBPs are offered 1:1 support from the Internships Team.

A degree from a UK University within the last 3 years.

GBP Scheme Requirements
To be eligible to apply and undertake a GBP role you must meet all the following criteria:
  • Achieved* (or about to achieve) a full undergraduate degree (or Masters or PhD).
  • Graduated in the UK within the last 3 years of your most recent degree (we will consider extenuating circumstances of potential applicants that may have prevented them from undertaking a graduate role within 3 years of graduation).
  • Attended a British university (or spent time studying at a UK university through ERASMUS)

  • You cannot undertake another GBP role if the contract length in total exceeds the maximum duration of 23 months working as a GBP.
*To undertake a GBP role, you must achieve your degree. In the unlikely event where a degree is not awarded, the GBP hours may be reduced to 15 hours per week (for undergraduates) or 6 hours per week (for postgraduates) to enable the graduate the capacity to successfully complete their degree. If the graduate fails their degree, the GBP role will end early.
